How Did Changed Lives Ministry Begin?
Our Story
Changed Lives Ministry (CLM)
was established in July 2003 by Pastor Mickey White, who had a deep desire to assist men struggling with addictions. Initially known as the Santee Circle Community Church "Motel Ministry," the program began by offering shelter, food, transportation to church, and assistance in accessing other rehabilitation programs for homeless men affected by addictions. With the increasing number of men seeking help, the Wiggins, owners of the Berkeley Motel, generously provided rooms and meals for over 25 men. Despite concerns from others, Marvin Wiggins remained committed, believing that if even just one man achieved successful rehabilitation, it would be worth it.
In August 2005,
when the Wiggins sold their property to a franchise drug store, the ministry had to relocate. It temporarily moved to Tracy's Camp in Summerton, SC, before finding a temporary home at Calvary Baptist Church's pastoral house. During this transitional period, Pastor Mickey White appointed Keith Griggs as Director, and together with the board members, they fervently prayed and sought God's guidance for the future of the ministry.
Through a series of miraculous events,
the current location off Reid Hill Road was selected. Generous donations and volunteers enabled the construction of necessary infrastructure, including roads, a septic system, and a well, at no cost to the ministry. Buildings were donated, and individuals selflessly provided labor, materials, and services. In June 2006, the ministry relocated to its permanent location, where it continued to grow and impact lives.
As the ministry expanded,
it was renamed "Changed Lives Ministry" (2 Cor. 5:17) to reflect its transformative focus. In April 2010, the CLM Transitional House was established, offering an extended program to support men's successful transition back into the workforce and society, while providing additional accountability.
Throughout its history,
Changed Lives Ministry has witnessed God's orchestration and the generosity of the community. The ministry has remained steadfast in its mission to guide individuals struggling with addiction towards healing and transformation. Through spiritual guidance, practical assistance, and the unwavering support of mentors and counselors, Changed Lives Ministries has been a beacon of hope, providing men with a chance to rebuild their lives and experience lasting change.
