At Changed Lives Ministry, our volunteers are the heartbeat of the Resale Store. Each month, we are blessed to highlight someone whose dedication, compassion, and service shine brightly. This month, we’re honored to recognize Kathy Graziano Pilson as our Volunteer of the Month! Kathy began volunteering with the Resale Store in 2024. After hearing about the opportunity through her church, Victory Baptist, and receiving encouragement from her friend Samantha Driggers, she felt the Lord calling her to serve. “I know God did it,” Kathy shares, “but Sam encouraged me to volunteer.” For Kathy, volunteering is a joyful mix of her passions: helping people, organizing, and shopping. She finds deep fulfillment in knowing her work at the Resale Store not only blesses customers but also supports the greater mission of Changed Lives Ministry. “The gratification of knowing I’m not only helping customers, but also CLM—an organization that educates, loves, and changes the lives of those breaking free from addiction—is truly rewarding.” Kathy enjoys many aspects of her role, especially tasks that directly impact the ministry. She loves sorting through clothing donations, knowing that even items not sold are still put to use in supporting CLM. She also enjoys working in the electrical section—testing, repairing, and fixing items to ensure they can be resold to benefit the ministry. One of her most meaningful experiences came when she unexpectedly reconnected with someone she hadn’t seen in over 25 years. “We had worked together long ago, and I didn’t even know they struggled with alcohol. Today, they’ve overcome addiction, are working with CLM, and are helping others find freedom from drugs and alcohol. It’s amazing to see how God transforms lives.” Kathy’s strong faith is the foundation of her service. “The Lord has led me to places where He needs me—and this happens to be one of them,” she reflects. She brings joy and encouragement to her fellow volunteers and program participants, always lifting others up in prayer. “It’s uplifting to see those prayers fulfilled—it keeps me going in what God has called me to do.” What resonates with Kathy most about CLM is the ministry’s impact on those in recovery. “Everything we do at the store, in some way, pays for someone to go through the program or gives them purpose as they work there. It’s encouraging and life-giving for those in the program.” Outside of volunteering, Kathy has a unique connection to the world of theater and film. She has sold costumes for plays and movies—including the historical film All for Liberty. She even appeared in the movie as “the bread girl” and enjoys sharing that fun piece of her story. When asked what she would tell someone considering volunteering, Kathy doesn’t hesitate: “Just do it.” “The care, devotion, love, and purpose you’ll find here are so worth it. You’ll gain experience in retail, hospitality, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging to a family that truly cares. Meet Becky Hill – Store Manager at Changed Lives Ministry Resale Store After dedicating 40 years of service to the State of South Carolina, Becky retired in July 2019, not knowing what the Lord had planned next. Just a few months later, God opened a new door. With the CLM Resale Store preparing to open, Becky stepped in to help with the setup alongside other volunteers. While standing in the middle of what was then an almost empty space, Becky felt the Lord’s unmistakable call to serve in this ministry. In December 2019, the original CLM Resale Store officially opened—and Becky began faithfully volunteering, despite having “zero retail experience.” What she did bring, however, was far more valuable: a heart willing to serve and a deep desire to be part of something greater than herself. For Becky, this role has never been about the items sold. It’s about the lives changed. She has witnessed miracles daily as men and women struggling with addiction find freedom in Christ. Through her leadership, encouragement, and faithful service, countless opportunities have arisen to share the hope of Jesus with customers, staff, and volunteers alike. This month, we’re excited to shine a light on Art Hightower, CLM Assistant at the Men’s Ministry and Transition House Manager. Art’s story is one of perseverance, redemption, and faithful service. A Journey of Renewal Art, 69, is the proud father of two sons and grandfather of three. For 45 years, he worked in his family’s construction business after attending Anderson College. Though his life included many blessings, personal struggles with addiction eventually led to the dissolution of his marriage and a difficult season of brokenness. That season became a turning point when Art entered the 91-day recovery program at CLM. Completing the program was more than an accomplishment—it was a life-changing experience. She also has valuable leadership experience from managing a coffee shop and Hibbert Sports. As a Ministry Assistant, Hannah has been working at the Women's Ministry for almost a year. Hannah walks alongside the women in our program, offering emotional support throughout their journey. She also helps ensure daily structure by enforcing rules, keeping schedules, and making sure residents' needs are met. No two days are ever the same! Hannah balances being a source of emotional encouragement with practical responsibilities that keep the ministry running smoothly. Since then, he has been faithfully involved in ministry work, walking alongside those in need of encouragement, accountability, and the life-changing truth of the Gospel. In February 2025, Clayton joined CLM and was soon offered a staff position. His heart for helping men navigate both the program and their walk with Christ has made him an incredible asset to our team. He is grateful for the opportunity to help guide men in their walk through this program and their walk with Christ along with their discipleship. Before stepping into ministry full-time, Clayton attended the University of South Carolina and spent much of his career in restaurant management. Outside of his work at CLM, you can find him enjoying the great outdoors—whether it’s mountain biking, fishing, camping, or just about anything under the open sky.
